Alan Chivers, Chairman of TÜV SÜD PMSS, the global renewable energy consulting firm, has been appointed to the RenewableUK board, the firm has announced.

Alan Chivers has taken up his role on the board from June 2014, and will be responsible as HSE link in that position.

With health and safety playing such a crucially important role within the renewable energy industry, particularly given the number of offshore developments, Alan brings 20 years experience of front line service support in the renewable energy sector to the RenewableUK board. As a founder of PMSS, Alan was a pioneer in engaging renewable energy developers and operators to develop best practice across this developing industry, and a trailblazer in establishing the importance of Health and Safety practices across the UK’s and Europe’s developing onshore and offshore wind projects.

“The industry approach to health & safety continues to improve, and what we now need to strive for is convergence in guidance and good practises,” said Alan Chivers . “I want to work on encouraging this type of harmonisation across the industry – demonstrating that good HSE contributes meaningfully to cost reduction.”

“We also want to be able to work with the industry to ensure that renewable energy has the best track record for health and safety amongst all energy generating sectors.”

“And at TÜV SÜD PMSS, despite broadening our expertise and client base, we continue to hold health and safety with as much importance as we always have done. We have a number of initiatives in place and under development that we hope will enable the industry to continue to move forwards.”

This year TÜV SÜD PMSS celebrates its twentieth year in business, having provided first rate consultancy support services to the rapidly expanding renewable energy industry since it opened its doors back in 1994.
