Greg Barker, the UK Minister of State at the Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC), payed a visit to Seagen in Northern Ireland on Tuesday, 25th February 2014.

“This SeaGen tidal turbine may be a prototype but is grid connected and already powering 1500 NI homes,” Minister Barker posted on Twitter during his visit.

This month, Siemens-owned Marine Current Turbines is carrying out inspection and maintenance work on the tidal turbine system.

In April, the SeaGen tidal turbine will celebrate six years since it was deployed by the “Rambiz” crane barge in Northern Ireland’s Strangford Lough.
