Forewind chairman Charles Hendry MP has been announced as the Programme Ambassador for RenewableUK’s Global Offshore Wind 2014 conference and exhibition.

In this role, Mr Hendry will work to increase the profile of the event with both UK and global audiences to encourage attendees and high-profile speakers. The event will be held from Wednesday 11 to Thursday 12 June 2014 at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre (SECC) in Glasgow.

As a well-known champion of offshore wind technology and head of the consortium developing the world’s largest offshore wind scheme, Mr Hendry said that he was delighted to be the Programme Ambassador for this prestigious conference and exhibition.

“The UK already has a world leading offshore sector so it is appropriate that in 2014 it will be hosting the world’s largest dedicated offshore conference,” he said.

The first Global Offshore Wind conference and exhibition was held in 2012 and attracted 3,500 visitors, with even greater numbers anticipated this year.

“I’m pleased to see that we now have more than 1000 turbines installed in UK waters and globally there is close to 7GW of offshore capacity,” Mr Hendry said. “Offshore wind energy is a vibrant global industry with enormous growth potential and this event will provide a valuable meeting point for all those with an interest in it.”
