According to IBM, Vestas has applied the most innovative information management solution within their entire customer base in 2011. The ‘Most Innovative Award’ was granted to Vestas for the deployment of the supercomputer Firestorm.

The award was presented to Vestas at an award ceremony with over 10,000 people attending IBM’s annual ‘Information on Demand’ conference in Las Vegas, USA.

“We use the supercomputer and the knowledge it brings us in new ways – and on top of that we improve the business case of green energy. That’s why we won the award,” says Lars Christian Christensen, Vice President for Plant Siting & Forecasting in Vestas Technology R&D.

Firestorm gives Vestas a competitive edge

Christensen received the award in Las Vegas on behalf of Vestas, and he underlines that winning the award is something to celebrate, as it will be noticed in the industry and among costumers.

“The Firestorm supercomputer will give Vestas a competitive edge. Winning the award is an acknowledgement of the fact that Vestas is at the forefront when it comes to using innovative technology for the benefit of our customers, and the business of green energy. This will strengthen our position as a value-leader in the market,” he says.

About Firestorm

Firestorm is a supercomputer that Vestas use to increase business case certainty for the customers in a way never seen before. It enables Vestas to simulate the wind for any particular wind site in the world. This improves siting for wind power plants and ensures delivery of the best power forecasts in the industry.
