Navantia has begun manufacturing a floating foundation for the Portuguese WindFloat Atlantic project at the Fene shipyard in Spain, after the Navantia-Windar joint venture won a contract for the works a few months ago, the foundation manufacturer informed.
Building a floating foundation in concrete has shown to be a cheaper solution, not only construction-wise but with O&M taken into account as well, since the material is much more durable at sea – as learned from the offshore oil & gas industry – according to Bruno Geschier, Chief Sales & Marketing Officer at Ideol.
DHI, together with DTU Wind Energy and Stiesdal Offshore Technology, recently opened doors to the offshore wave basin at its headquarters in Denmark for all those interested to witness the tests of Henrik Stiesdal’s TetraSpar floating foundation concept.
The first of the total 5 turbines for the Hywind Scotland project has been lifted onto its floating foundation in Stord, Norway, and is ready for the deployment off the Scottish coast.
The Navantia-Windar consortium has loaded out the first two of the five SPAR-type floating foundations built for Statoil’s 30MW Hywind Scotland floating wind farm.
The Energy Technologies Institute (ETI) has recommended more emphasis to be placed on floating foundations in order to access the best offshore wind resources in the UK and pave the way to subsidy-free offshore wind farms in 2050 energy mix. Floating platform solutions should be further derisked, as at the moment, investors and developers still favour […]
Dutch design and engineering company GustoMSC, South Korean offshore wind developer Halla Wind Energy, and Korean Maritime Consultants (KOMAC) signed a three-way Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the intention to mutually develop and design the GustoMSC Tri-Floater, a floating foundation for wind turbines. The companies will jointly develop and design GustoMSC Tri-Floater for the Dongbu […]
Ideol has raised more than EUR 3 million in the latest fundraising round, including capital from Tertium investment fund. The newly secured finances will be used to speed up the development of Ideol’s floating wind foundation. Ideol’s floating foundation can be constructed in concrete or steel. It is designed to be compatible with existing commercial offshore wind turbines without […]
ESG Edelstahl und Umwelttechnik Stralsund GmbH, a member of German GICON Group, and the Endowed Chair of Wind Energy Technology at the University of Rostock have secured EUR 1 million for the development and full-scale testing of a sub-structure for third generation wind turbines with a capacity of 6MW or more. The funds for the development of […]
German engineering consultancy Gicon has received permission from a governmental agency to feed 2.3MW of grid connection capacity through the country’s first floating offshore foundation – GICON®-SOF. On 3 November 2015, Edelstahl und Umwelttechnik Stralsund GmbH (ESG), a member of the Gicon Group, secured the necessary claim to connection capacities as part of a bidding process with the German Federal Network […]
The joint venture Navantia-Windar has been awarded by Statoil’s subsidiary Hywind Scotland Ltd, the supply of 5 spar-type floating foundations for 6 MW turbines. This will be the world’s first commercial floating test park. Each foundation has a displacement of approximately 3,500 tonnes, dimensions approximately 90 meters x 14.5 meters diameter. The construction shall take […]
Conquest Offshore and deugro Denmark A/S, with the engineering companies Temporary Works Design (TWD) and Barge Master, have presented their newly developed installation system for monopiles, transition pieces (TPs) and pre-piling of jackets. The 136 by 36 meter Conquest MB1 barge is the perfect tool to execute this kind of work. Three monopiles and 3 to 16 transition […]
Germany’s first floating offshore foundation, the GICON® SOF, has cleared an important hurdle on the way to the installation and testing phase by receiving its construction and operating license from the State Department of Agriculture and Environment of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. On March 27, GICON received the necessary approval for “erection and operation of an offshore wind […]
Giant offshore wind parks are being developed along the coasts to produce tremendous amounts of green power. The offshore wind power sector is seen as a major renewable energy growth market. Latest expert studies are estimating Europe’s operating offshore wind power generation capacity to be at 40 GW by 2020. The global offshore wind investment […]
Based on the Damping Pool system and concrete fabrication, the IDEOL foundation solution enables to install wind turbine without the usual shallow water limitations, at costs more competitive than bottom-fixed foundation beyond 35-40 meters depth, where winds are better and noise/visual/fishing conflicts much lower.
