The vessel installed the first foundation at the offshore site some 40km north of the island of Borkum at the end of June.

The monopiles and transition pieces are transported by barges from Nordenham to the 203MW wind farm, where they are then driven circa 30m into the seabed with a hydraulic hammer and about 4,000 pile driving strokes.

Trianel Windpark Borkum II will comprise 32 Senvion 6.33MW turbines. The units, which will be installed by Jan De Nul, are slated for full commissioning by the end of next year.

The project is owned by EWE AG with a share of 37.5% and a joint venture of the power utility of the city of Zurich with 24.51%. The Stadtwerke-Kooperation Trianel together with 17 municipal utilities from Germany hold a share of 37.99%.
