Thai Oil & Gas Company Debuts on Formosa 1 Phase 2

The Thailand-based oil & gas company CUEL Limited has secured a contract with Jan De Nul for the fabrication and supply of 20 transition pieces for the Formosa 1 Phase 2 project in Taiwan, marking its first offshore wind contract.

The construction work will take place at CUEL’s Laem Chabang yard in Thailand and is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2019.

Jan De Nul is the EPCI contractor for the project, and is in charge of the design, procurement and installation of the turbine foundations. The company recently contracted EEW SPC to produce 20 monopile foundations, beginning the activities this October at its facilities in Rostock, Germany.

The 120MW Formosa 1 Phase 2 will comprise 20 Siemens Gamesa 6MW turbines located off the coast of Chunan Town. It is due to be operational in 2020, when it will become Taiwan’s first commercial offshore wind farm.

The wind farm is being developed by a joint venture of Ørsted (35%), Taiwanese developer Swancor Renewable (15%) and Macquarie Capital (50%).
