Attollo Offshore Begins Borkum Riffgrund 2 Duty

Attollo Offshore has mobilized the jack-up accommodation vessel Atlantic Amsterdam for Ørsted’s Borkum Riffgrund 2 offshore wind farm in the German North Sea.

Under the contract secured in March, the UK-based company is in charge of providing accommodation and construction support for the hookup and commissioning of the project’s offshore substation, which was installed in June.

The duration of the project is 60 days, with the possibility of extending the charter period for up to 120 days, Ørsted said.

“With Attollo Offshore operating the Atlantic Amsterdam, we have extensive flexibility for the commissioning works on our BKR02 OSS topside, in terms of accommodation, storage, power supply and the whole logistical set-up,” said Dennis Bormann, Deputy Construction Project Manager for Borkum Riffgrund 2.

“The crew is well trained and experienced, capable of conducting complex lifting operations as well as ad-hoc tasks. This has allowed us to focus on getting our power production to run in time.”

HSM Offshore is the EPC contractor for the substation, while Heerema Marine Contractors was responsible for the transport and installation of the topside, jacket and piles.

Borkum Riffgrund 2 will comprise 56 MHI Vestas 8MW turbines located next to Borkum Riffgrund 1 some 57km off the north-west coast of Germany. The 450MW project recently generated its first power to the German grid, while full commissioning is scheduled for 2019.
