Swan Hunter has completed export cable load-in operations for a Belgian offshore wind project.

The load-in operations included spooling of approximately 28km of 261mm export cable, after a vessel brought the cable to DOC-Swan Hunter’s Storage & Cable Spooling Yard in Vlissingen, the Netherlands.

According to the company, the cable will be stored in DOC-Swan Hunter’s newly built 23m basket carousel.

“These operations did see the first use of our newly build carousel in combination with our new loading tower. We are very proud of reaching the tremendous milestone in building this new equipment in time and soon afterwards finalising the spooling operations,” Swan Hunter’s Director, Gerard Kroese, said.

“We did achieve this as a result of a tremendous effort by our personnel in combination with designers, engineers, subcontractors and suppliers over recent months. The support from the local supply chain has been immense. The cable is now covered with UV cable protection materials until load-out operations.”

Swan Hunter said that the cable load-out is expected in the third quarter of this year.

DOC-Swan Hunter, a joint venture between Swan Hunter and Dutch Offshore Contractors, was established as part of a Memorandum of Understanding the two companies signed in September 2017 agreeing to together provide a complete service package solution to the offshore energy industry by combining their respective specialties.
