First Rentel Turbines Up

A2Sea’s jack-up Sea Installer has installed the first sets of Siemens Gamesa D7-type turbines on the Rentel offshore wind farm in the Belgian North Sea.

The Sea Installer is currently en route to the Port of Ostend to load another set of wind turbine components.

The first turbine was installed at the site some 40 kilometres off the coast of Ostend during the first weekend of May.

All 42 Siemens Gamesa D7-type turbines, each with an individual capacity of 7.35MW, are scheduled to be installed after the summer, and the first electricity from the wind farm is expected by mid-2018.

The 309MW Rentel wind farm is slated for full commissioning later this year.

Rentel NV, a consortium of eight Belgian shareholders, including Otary Offshore Energy, DEME Group and Elicio NV, is developing the wind farm.
