Bladt Industries is responsible for the construction of steel structures for all three substations. The weight of each individual substation will be 2,800 tons. The first substation topside is expected to be ready for delivery in spring 2018.

The Hornsea Project One offshore wind farm will be the biggest wind farm in the world once operational in 2020. The wind farm is located approximately 120 kilometres off the coast of Yorkshire.

The three offshore substations will collect electricity generated by the wind farm’s 174 Siemens 7MW wind turbines.

In May 2016, Bladt Industries and Semco Maritime won a contract to build three offshore substations for Hornsea Project One. Semco Maritime is responsible for LV electrical works, including E&I, design, onshore construction and offshore commissioning.

Bladt is also in charge of manufacturing 96 transition pieces for the wind farm.

56 transition pieces will be manufactured at the Offshore Structures Britain (OSB) facility in Haverton Hill near Billingham, Teesside.

The remaining 40 transition pieces will be manufactured at the Bladt Aalborg facility in Denmark.
