Van Oord Picks Seaproof’s Cable Protection Systems for Norther OWF

Van Oord has awarded Seaproof Solutions with a contract for the supply of cable protection systems for the Norther offshore wind farm in Belgium.

The contract covers the design and supply of 89 cable protection systems for the inner array grid and the export cables.

Norther will feature 44 MHI Vestas V164-8.0 MW turbines optimised to be able to deliver a maximum output of 8.4MW.

Van Oord, hired as the Balance of Plant contractor, is in charge of the engineering, procurement, supply and installation of 44 wind turbine foundations, the Offshore High Voltage Station (OHVS), inter-array and export cables, as well as the installation of the turbines. For the transport and installation of the foundations and turbines Van Oord intends to deploy its offshore installation vessel Aeolus, and will install the cables by using its cable-laying vessel Nexus.

Norther is the 16th offshore wind farm project for Seaproof Solutions, taking the total number of cable protection systems supplied to more than 1,200, the company stated.

The Norther offshore wind farm is owned by Norther N.V. a joint venture between Elicio and Boreas with three sponsors: Elicio N.V. (50%), Eneco (25%) and Mitsubishi Corporation (25%).
