DEWI OKs Hyosung’s 5MW System

Hyosung obtained the international certification for its 5MW offshore wind power generation system.

After 16 days of testing, the Germany’s DEWI Offshore and Certification Centre issued B-type certification for the system.

Since 2009 the company has been testing its 5MW wind power system installed at Gimnyung, Jeju Island. With total wing span of 139 meters and tower heights of 100 meters it can supply electricity for around 3,600 houses.

Wind turbine manufacturers such as Siemens, Vestas and Areva already acquired certificate for their 5MW systems, while Hyosung has become the only Korean company to obtain the certificate.

Last year, DEWI-OCC also tested Hyosung’s 5.9MW system which passed the EC (International Electrotechnical Commission) and GL (Germanischer Lloyd Guideline 2010) tests.
