Lloyd Werft Close to Sealing Cable-Laying Vessel Order From Bremen’s Beluga Shipping (Germany)

IHS Fairplay reports that Lloyd Werft is reportedly close to sealing an order for a cable-laying vessel from Bremen’s Beluga Shipping.

The vessel, with a length of 110m and breadth of 28m, is to be delivered in mid-2012 for deployment on a North Sea offshore windfarm, the German daily newspaper NWZ reported.

Beluga’s managing director Emilio Reales Bertomeo told NWZ that details of the contract are still under negotiation and that the project partners are seeking government support for the project.

The German federal government has pledged to launch a €1 billion (US$1.36 billion) loan programme for offshore wind farm developments, which might be opened up for shipbuilding contracts for installation and support vessels.

Bremerhaven’s wind energy association WAB called for state loan guarantees to cover 90 per cent of the cost of a shipbuilding project.
