Whilst aiming to diversify its energy mix, Japan is clearly developing its renewable energy sector, especially as it steers away from nuclear power following the disaster at the Fukushima nuclear power plant in 2011. The devastating effects from that powerful earthquake and associated tsunami has led to an explosion of interest in renewable energy with the Japanese government also having set renewable targets of between 25% and 35% of total power generation by 2030, by which time some $700 billion would be invested in new, renewable energy.
