The research project, A New Partnership in Offshore Wind, is led by the University of Sheffield, with the Durham University and the University of Hull as the project partners.

The researchers aim to address the challenges of both the current and future generations of wind turbine technology in such a way that a chain of critical issues regarding availability and reliability of such structures will be explored and solved.

The project is one of eleven to receive a part of the government funding from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund (ISCF), who will support the offshore wind programme with GBP 3.2 million. DONG Energy and Siemens are also contributing GBP 2.5 million and including the contributions from the three universities the project’s funding totals GBP 7.6 million.

The grant funds are expected to strengthen the links between the UK’s research base, industry and business partners.
