Vroon’s Platform Supply Vessel Backs Rampion OWF Operations

Last weekend, Vroon’s DP2 platform supply vessel (PSV) VOS Prime carried out a supply run to the wind turbine installation vessel MPI Discovery at the Rampion offshore wind farm in the UK, where MPI Discovery is at work until later this month.

The PSV sailed out for the supply run from its current base port of Emden and, after the six-hour ship-to-ship transfer was concluded, the vessel headed directly to the German sector for a second supply job.

Since mid-2016, VOS Prime has been regularly delivering consumables and technical components to offshore wind farm substations on so-called “milk rounds”, mainly operating in German waters.

In November 2016, MPI Discovery and Pacific Orca installed the last of 116 turbine foundations at the 400MW offshore wind farm, and after the installation was finished, the team started making final preparations for the erection of MHI Vestas 3.45MW turbines, set to commence this spring.

The GBP 1.3 billion Rampion offshore wind project is owned by E.ON, the UK Green Investment Bank plc and Canadian energy company Enbridge. The wind farm, located some 13 kilometres off the coast of Sussex, is due to be completed and operational in 2018.
