Babcock to Build Beatrice Offshore Transformer Modules

Babcock, a UK engineering company, has won a contract from Siemens to build two Offshore Transformer Modules (OTMs) for the Beatrice offshore wind farm.

This follows the award of a contract from DONG Energy in May, when Babcock has been hired to build the world’s first offshore reactive compensation station for the 1.2GW Hornsea Project One offshore wind farm.

Siemens signed a contract to supply, install and commission 84 7MW wind turbines for the Beatrice project, located around 14 kilometers off the Scottish coast, in May.

The offshore wind farm will be built by Beatrice Offshore Windfarm Limited, a partnership formed between SSE, SDIC Power and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners.

The project, which will be controlled and operated from a base at Wick, is expected to be fully operational in 2019.
