The Erweiterung Europakai Cuxhaven LP 4 consortium will carry out construction works to expand the port’s Europakai (Europe Quay) with the addition of the Berth 4 to meet the rising demand and complement the existing development projects, including the construction of a wind turbine factory by Siemens.

The construction project calls for the preparation of a port area and the construction of a waterside quay, including the necessary pre- and accompanying works.

The works mainly include the introduction of approximately 240 metres of combined sheet pile wall, the introduction of in-situ concrete and steel pipe piles and the required reinforced concrete superstructure. Furthermore, it includes the rinsing of some one million cubic metres of sand and making of the subsequent harbour bottom.

The planned port area has a size of around ninety thousand square metres.  The associated handling services in the berth area will include RoRo and LoLo services, cargo and sea freight, and offshore wind farm services.

The 240-meter quay will be able to accommodate ships with a draft of up to 14.30 meters and has adjacent storage and handling facilities covering an area of approximately 8.5 hectares.

The EUR 36 million project is financed by the European Commission, and is expected to be completed by the end of 2017.
