According to the company, increasing demand from major UK construction and infrastructure development firms for a more strategic approach to the growing challenge of managing unexploded ordnance (UXO) risks led to the decision to invest in the specialist team and survey equipment required in order to deliver explosive ordnance risk management services on-site.

With the investment and a new team of expert EOD Engineers 6 Alpha will be able to undertake non-intrusive and intrusive on-site survey – a capability that will be further supported by data loggers and differential global positioning systems (DGPS) to deliver high quality geo-referenced data that can subsequently validated and employed to evidence that UXO risks have been reduced ALARP.

The company has also invested in specialist Oasis Montaj UXO analysis software to further refine and analyse raw survey data and provide a platform for subsequent investigative work.

Simon Cooke, Managing Director, 6 Alpha Associates, said: “Over recent years, the construction industry has identified a distinct quality gap that exists between the strength of our threat and risk assessment consultancy work and the follow on contracting services.  Many of our clients had concerns on the general disparity and level of quality especially, between our consultancy services and the on-site survey provision they subsequently procured from other contractors.

“Poor on site services not only had the potential to compromise the operational safety of projects, but also cost our clients more money than we thought they needed to spend.”
