Westermeerwind is being built in the waters of the IJsselmeer, along the dikes of the Noordoostpolder. It is the largest near shore wind farm in the Netherlands.

The turbines are divided into two rows along the Westermeer dike and one row along the Noordermeer dike, and are connected to an onshore transformer station.

Following the full completion expected by the end of spring 2016, the Westermeerwind will start generating enough power to meet the demands of 160,000 households.

Siemens started installing the 3 MW turbines at the site in August 2015. The wind farm produced its first power in November 2015.
