BLG Logistics will operate the OTB for 30 years. The contract is signed as a concession that allows the company to operate the port facility at its own expense and risk. The operator is obliged to pay a fee to the Federal Land of Bremen for the use of the terminal.

Work on the OTB began at the end of 2015. In January 2016, the terrain around the airport was cleared. By the end of April, an ordnance survey and clearance will be carried out.

The facility for pre-assembly and handling of offshore wind turbines will be available from 2019.

“The OTB ensures close cooperation between industrial production and shipping. It will significantly strengthen the offshore location Bremerhaven. At the same time it will make an important contribution to the successful implementation of the national energy policy because it will reduce the high logistics costs that are connected with the production of energy from offshore wind power,” said Ekkehart Siering, Bremen’s State Councillor for Economics, Labour and Ports.

With a total cost of EUR 180 million, the terminal is one of the largest infrastructure projects carried out in Bremen in the last decade.
