Turbine Installation Kicks Off at Westermeerwind

The installation of offshore wind turbines has started at Dutch 144MW Westermeerwind site with the erection of turbine tower.

The towers are transported from the port of Amsterdam to the construction site in Ijsselmeer in two parts, with a height of 50 and 40 metres, via ‘De Schelde’ pontoon.

Equipped with the 11350 Liebherr crane, the ‘De Schelde’ pontoon, owned by Van Oord/Mammoet, fits the lower tower section onto the previously installed foundation followed by the top tower section.

This work will be carried out over the coming weeks. From early September, the developer plans to start the nacelle installation. The wind farm features 48 Siemens 3MW turbines.

The first electricity from this wind farm is planned in autumn while the entire wind farm is expected to come online in February 2016.
