France Designates Four Floating Wind Areas

French Minister for Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy, Ségolène Royal has designated four areas for the development of pilot wind farms comprising floating turbines in three different regions: Brittany, Languedoc-Roussillon and Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur.

The sites selected as the most favorable are off the island of Groix, the town of Gruissan, Faraman lighthouse, and the ponds of Leucate.

A call for floating wind farm pilot projects will be launched for these four areas and published before the end of July.

This comes after a thorough process of analysis and consultation, including technical studies to identify the potential and initial definition of suitable areas, as well as local consultations with all sea users, particularly fishermen, to clarify the perimeter of suitable areas.
