50Hertz’s Baltic Sea Offshore Link Approved

Minister of Energy of the State of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Christian Pegel, has given 50Hertz a planning approval for a major part of its Ostwind 1 offshore cable project in German part of the Baltic Sea.

The approval covers the construction and operation of approximately seventy kilometers long cable route section.

Lorenz Müller, Head of Offshore Projects at 50Hertz, said that the first construction works will begin as early as this summer.

The Ostwind 1 project represents a part of the grid connection of the West Adlergrund cluster and includes the construction of network connections for wind farms Wikinger and Arkona-Becken Südost.

The project includes a 90-kilometer long offshore cable and an onshore one three kilometers long, which ends at 50Hertz’s Lubmin substation.
