EDF Backs Redcar Development Trust

Redcar Development Trust (RDT) has hired a community engagement specialist as it bids to secure extra cash that will allow new schemes in the area to get off the ground.

Development worker Pippa Ware was appointed after RDT secured extra funding for the post in the form of a grant from the Teesside Offshore Community Benefit Fund, which was launched by EDF Energy Renewables in partnership with the Tees Valley Community Foundation in 2013.

Ware has joined the organisation with the remit of identifying training and employment opportunities for young jobseekers, strengthening links with key public and private sector partners, and organising events that will generate income for RDT.

The organisation will then invest the funds in training, employment and community schemes that will benefit local residents.

EDF Energy Renewables, which owns and operates the Teesside offshore wind farm off the coast of Redcar, has supported more than 40 local causes through the Teesside Offshore Community Benefit Fund.

Community groups on Teesside are eligible to apply for financial support from the fund for projects, activities and events that benefit local people.
