Germans Cut Wind Power Costs through Weather Forecast

German Federal Government has entrusted Centre for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research Baden-Württemberg (ZSW) and EWC Weather Consult GmbH with a research project that will develop more accurate wind power forecasts to reduce costs of the country’s energy transition.

It sometimes happens that, due to weather conditions, less wind or solar electricity is produced. In order to compensate, an expensive energy control must be procured.

The project called “WindSage” has been set up to remedy the situation.

ZSW and EWC will use multiple weather models to calculate meteorological forecasts that will significantly improve forecasting of wind power generation.
