Siemens Erects 6MW Offshore Turbine on Land

Siemens has installed two of its SWT-6.0-154 offshore wind turbines at an onshore site in Wehlens near Wilhelmshaven.

This represents the first onshore installation of 6MW offshore turbines, however it is already being installed at 210MW Westermost Rought offshore wind farm.

Project owner Bioenergie Nord GmbH and planning engineering agency Pommer & Schwarz selected the Siemens 6 MW wind turbine as the location offers wind conditions comparable to offshore sites.

The owner believes the 195-meter wind turbines equipped with direct-drive generators and rotors with a diameter of 154 meters would provide a greater energy yield.

After commissioning in late 2014, the two Siemens D6 wind turbines will deliver sufficient electricity to supply more than 14,000 average German households with clean energy.
