MHI Vestas Offshore Wind has been granted provisional (B) certification for the V164-8.0 MW from leading classification group DNV GL. The certification acknowledges conformity with standards for the design, testing and manufacturing of the turbine and gives a green light to proceed with commercial sales.

Chief Technology Officer Torben Hvid Larsen said the provisional certification of the V164-8.0 MW sends a strong signal to the market.

“The certification of the V164-8.0 MW from DNV GL underlines that the development of the turbine is proceeding according to our plan and demonstrates compliance with the industry leading standards for design, quality, manufacturing and testing, a very high priority for our customers.”

The provisional (B) type certification is part of a standard development of a wind turbine. It is awarded for a limited period with and acknowledges some minor outstanding issues which must be addressed in order for the type (A) certification to be granted.

“We are very confident that the minor outstanding issues will be completed and documented according to our plan by the first quarter of 2015,” said Torben Hvid Larsen.
