HUSUM Wind Celebrates Its 25th Anniversary

The 25th anniversary of the successful wind fair is being celebrated in Husum today with high-calibre guests from the fields of politics and business. Guests will include Schleswig-Holstein’s Minister-President Torsten Albig and minister for economic affairs Reinhard Meyer. A limited edition wind chronicle is also being launched during the celebrations, charting a quarter of a century of HUSUM Wind.

Peter Becker, managing director of Messe Husum & Congress: “When the Husum Wind Energy Days were held for the first time on 14 October 1989, the wind industry was still in its infancy. 25 years later, it is the cornerstone of the energy transition and the job engine for the regional economy. This is something we are very proud of, and we are looking forward with anticipation to the forthcoming HUSUM Wind in September 2015 here in North Frisia.”

Minister-President Torsten Albig: “Schleswig-Holstein has made an above-average contribution to the development of the wind industry – not just in Germany, but in Europe as well. Over the last 25 years, the HUSUM Wind trade fair has significantly contributed to the fact that Schleswig-Holstein’s role in this has also been recognised far beyond the region.”

After speeches by Peter Becker and Minister-President Torsten Albig, there will be a panel discussion about the importance of the Husum fair for the wind industry and the current challenges facing wind power. As well as minister for economic affairs Reinhard Meyer, the panel will include major industry figures Hans-Dieter Kettwig, managing director of ENERCON GmbH, Andreas Nauen, chairman of the board of Senvion SE, Manfred Lührs, founder of 8.2 Consulting AG and Hermann Albers, president of the German Wind Energy Association.

The celebrations also includes the launch of the Wind Chronicle, which looks back over the last 25 years of HUSUM Wind, from its beginnings in a local livestock auction hall in 1989 with just 20 exhibitors to the most important wind industry event with 1,200 exhibitors and over 30,000 visitors.

From 15 to 18 September 2015 the most important industry event for the German market will be taking place in Husum, where over 60 per cent of the available space has already been booked. Sectors represented at the exhibition will include turbine manufacturing, financing, grid operation, system control, the energy market, wind energy storage, processes & supply chain, system components, and realisation (onshore/offshore).
