Laidlaw Capital Group Buys Veja Mate Offshore Wind Farm

Following the Laidlaw Capital Group’s acquisition of the Deutsche Bucht wind farm in the North Sea, around 90 km off Borkum, the UK-based company has now acquired the neighbouring Veja Mate wind farm. The purchase of the wind farm project from the BARD Group was completed yesterday.

Once finished, the Veja Mate offshore wind farm will consist of up to 72 turbines with a total capacity of 400 MW.

A team from CMS Hasche Sigle’s Hamburg office led by partners Dr Christian von Lenthe (Corporate) and Dr Holger Kraft (Energy) negotiated the acquisition on behalf of the Laidlaw Capital Group and provided legal support. The team advises the Laidlaw Capital Group on a range of matters, especially its investment in offshore wind farm projects in the German section of the North Sea.

CMS regularly advises investors on matters relating to the acquisition and development of offshore wind farm projects. As recently as last week, CMS completed an offshore wind farm transaction for the Canadian power producer Northland Power Inc. on the acquisition of an 85% majority in the offshore wind parks Nordsee One, Nordsee Two and “Nordsee Three” from the German utility RWE’s daughter company RWEI Innogy.
