Scottish Govt OKs European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre

The Scottish Government has issued a marine licence for the construction of the proposed European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre (EOWDC) in Aberdeen Bay.

The EOWDC is being developed by Aberdeen Offshore Wind Farm Ltd (AOWFL) – a joint venture between Vattenfall and Aberdeen Renewable Energy Group (AREG) – plus development consortium partner Technip.

The 11-turbine scheme off the Aberdeen coast will have an installed capacity of up to 100MW and would be capable of yielding, on average, enough green electricity to power the equivalent of over 68,000 UK households.

The construction is scheduled to start next year.
