HS Ocean Group Names MD of McTays

Peter has joined the fast-growing international business to develop McTays’ range of shipbuilding services and associated work-streams with clients worldwide. He will also support HS Ocean Group’s ambitious growth strategy in the international oil and gas industry.

Peter has a wealth of experience and expertise in shipbuilding, engineering and management, developing his career at British Shipbuilders, where he was involved in ship building and ship repair projects worldwide. He has also spent a considerable amount of time working in the renewable energy sector, helping to deliver the world’s first commercial wave energy converter, the world’s first community owned tidal turbine and the foundation for what is the world’s largest offshore wind turbine.

Peter joins from Houlders, where he held the position of Project Director Construction, with responsibility for all construction related activities onshore and offshore.

Peter said: “I am very proud to have been appointed as Managing Director of McTays, a company with 40 years of history and vast potential to grow and enter a number of new markets. This will be a challenging role but with many opportunities to look forward to.

“I have been extremely impressed by the caliber of skilled workers here – including our young apprentices – and am excited to be working with the team at McTays and HS Ocean Group to develop the business and create further long-term sustainable employment.”

McTays, which is based on the banks of the busy River Mersey in the North West of England and is celebrating its 40th birthday in 2014, is a wholly owned subsidiary of HS Ocean Group, specialising in ship repairs, the design, build and delivery of ships and workboats as well as voyage repairs.

McTays has vast experience in the construction of complex vessels, with a 6-acre site including a fully equipped build hall and engineering workshop opening directly onto a newly upgraded slipway capable of accommodating vessels up to 2,000 tonnes.

Andy Boardman, CEO of HS Ocean Group, added: “Peter’s experience will undoubtedly add immense value to our team and the services we offer to our client base. HS Ocean Group is enjoying a strong period of growth and we are constantly looking at ways to improve, both through adding further expertise and knowledge to the business as well as developing innovative ways to save clients time and money.”
