Friesland Kabel Introduces Cables with Polyurethane Outer Sheath

An exclusive representative of the Finish cable manufacturer Helkama, Friesland Kabel, will showcase its flexible and resistant cable with polyurethane (PUR) outer sheath for the first time at the Hanover Fair (Hall 13/C99).

Klaus Moorlampen, owner of Friesland Kabel: “Outer sheaths made of PUR are the Mercedes of sheath materials. Rubber, however, is heavier and ages faster. I ‘m sure PUR will soon replace the rubber altogether, especially since the demands of users increase continuously to safety.”

The company currently offers three variants: an unshielded H -FLEX PWR PUR connecting and control cable, a shielded variant H -FLEX PWR C -PUR and a shielded instrument cable H- INS FLEX C -PUR. All three variants are suitable for the low voltage range, for example, in the loop of wind turbines or in towers – offshore and onshore.

The PUR cables are distinguished primarily by their high mechanical properties, such as chemical and oil resistance. They are also flame retardant and halogen-free. Furthermore they are suitable for free as well as for fixed installations.

Klaus Moorlampen: “The trend is going to high-quality material for outer sheaths. PUR is characterized by its high elastic stretching. For cables or wires with high movement cycles and in rough environments PUR products hold a lot more bending change cycles. And in the case of fire, the damage is much lower.”

For the first time in its portfolio Friesland Kabel now also offers cables for offshore installations such as oil platforms that meet the strict Norwegian standard NEK 606. These cables are halogen-free and resist also in extremely tough environments. Moorlampen: “The NEK 606 certification indicates to the user that the cables meet the highest safety standards. Especially for export-oriented customers NEK 606 is a real market advantage.”
