MECAL to Advise on First Taiwanese Offshore Wind Farm

The developer of what is expected to be the first offshore wind farm in Taiwan, Formosa Wind Power Co. Ltd., has hired a Dutch-based company MECAL to act as technical advisor for the project.

MECAL’s involvement focuses on wind turbine generator (WTG) procurement including technology evaluations of the various proposed WTG models, WTG tender analysis, O&M cost modelling, financial modelling and negotiations with the shortlisted WTG suppliers for both Supply and Service Agreements.

It will also provide expertise and guidance on related commercial issues and logistics and balance of plant BOP topics.

The wind farm will be erected 2-6km off the north-western coast of Taiwan, in water depths of 10-30m. It will have up to 36 WTGs, depending on the ongoing WTG tender outcome.

The Formosa 1 project is one of 3 proposed demonstration projects backed by the Taiwanese Government and is scheduled to be completed in 2018.
