SgurrEnergy to Take Part in EWEA 2014

SgurrEnergy will be presenting their renewable energy expertise next month at Europe’s premier wind energy event, EWEA 2014 in Barcelona, Spain.

Mechanical engineer, Markos Asimakopoulos, will be giving a podium presentation at the conference discussing measurement and visualisation of an offshore wind turbine compression zone. A poster authored by data analyst, Daniel Gallacher, will be presented detailing lidar measurements and visualisations of turbulence and wake decay length in an offshore wind farm. Renewable energy consultant Graham More will be also be presenting a poster on the results of a power curve test of an offshore wind turbine using a lidar installed on the transition piece.

Senior scientist, Dr Peter Clive, will chair the session on remote sensing at 2.15pm on Wednesday 12th March, and will steer the session to provide an opportunity both to review industry progress in making the most of remote sensing technology and to look ahead to the exciting possibilities that are now emerging.

SgurrEnergy’s Dr Clive said: “The new measurement opportunities made possible by remote sensing have been feeding back into our wind assessment methods and wind characterisation aspects that were previously neglected, no longer escape our attention. We can now understand very precisely how remote sensing and met mast measurements of the same phenomena are related but also understand the additional benefits that remote sensing brings.”
