China: Floating Test Platform Built for Marine Research Projects

On December 22, scientific research vessel “Huajiachi”, the first Chinese floating marine test platform was delivered after acceptance check.

A variety of ocean engineering research work can be done on the platform, including the determination of storm flow, installation and testing of subsea production systems, installation and testing of subsea pipelines and risers, wind and solar test, test of mooring systems, marine geotechnical tests and much more.

“Huajiachi” is a small semi-submersible platform consisting of a deck module, four columns, two pontoons and systems including mooring, power, control, signals and etc. The platform is 19 meters long, 15 meters wide, 16 meters hight, and can float on water depths of 30 to 100 meters.

The test platform is a joint project of Zhejiang University and Zhoushan City, was built by Zhoushan Hetai Ship Building Reparing Co. LTD. It will lie at anchor in the waters near Zhairuoshan island.
