A2SEA’s second newbuild offshore installation vessel was christened yesterday at the COSCO shipyard in China.

Her name will be SEA CHALLENGER and she is almost identical to SEA INSTALLER. The new vessel features a larger crane that can lift up to 900 tonnes, which is 100 tonnes more than her sister vessel. The increased lifting capacity will meet the trend toward even larger turbines engineered for offshore use.

SEA CHALLENGER is expected to be delivered in the beginning of 2014.

After the arrival, the vessel is scheduled to work on Dong’s Westermost Rough offshore wind farm. The installation of 35 Siemens 6MW turbines is expected to start in July 2014.
