Gamesa's 5MW Offshore Wind Turbine Marks Record-High Power Generation

Gamesa’s offshore wind turbine prototype in Arinaga Quay, in Canary Islands, marked record-high power generation for wind turbines in Spain on November 2.

The wind turbine produced 118.05 MWh of electricity, surpassing the previous record of 107.82 MWh, similarly achieved by other company’s product, the G128-4.5 MW turbine.

This milestone demonstrates the turbine’s tremendous reliability and its ability to withstand extreme wind conditions for more than 24 hours in a row without suffering any incident whatsoever. This record further confirms the suitability of the site selected for reproducing offshore conditions, enabling the capture of all the data needed for type certification purposes.

The G128-5.0 MW Offshore started to operate in July; since then it has generated over 2 GWh of electricity that has gone into the power grid for local consumption. It is the first offshore wind turbine installed in Spain.
