USA: Leasing Process Major Setback for Offshore Wind Plans

Boston hosted an offshore wind energy public meeting on Tuesday, writes Cape Cod Times.

The main topic was deployment of the wind turbines off Massachusetts.

According to the officials, area off Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket could be leased by 2013 with the obligation to submit construction and operations plans by 2018, having 20 years more to produce the power from these wind farms.

This leasing process presents a major setback for the Governor Deval Patrick to have 2GW of installed wind power, including big percentage of offshore wind, by 2020.
