Denmark: Idé-Pro Assists Suzlon in Wind Turbine Blades Designing

Suzlon Blade Technology (Suzlon) and Idé-Pro Engineering & Software A/S (Idé-Pro) have signed a 3 year contract, during which Idé-Pro will deliver a complete integrated solution for the design of future Wind Turbine Blades to Suzlon worldwide.

The solution is based on the newest V6 technology from Dassault Systèmes with CATIA V6, CATIA V6 Composites and ENOVIA V6 as the main part of the solution together with extensive services to ensure a successful implementation worldwide. The contract value of the initial phases is estimated to more than DKK 10 million.

“Our goal have been to set new standards for future development of Wind Turbine Blades by establishing a digital thread covering our total process”, says Flemming Mortensen, Senior Project Manager at Suzlon. “We need to define a process from initial airfoil design through structural design and analysis to production and enable our locations in Denmark, The Netherlands and India to work seamlessly together in order to be prepared for the expected massive growth within our industry. We will need to embrace many of the same development processes that are successfully used in the aerospace industry. Not only shall we focus on having the best tools for advanced design of large composite structures, we must also focus on having a solution that will allow for many design iterations and still getting the right data out to our worldwide production facilities – and all the time with a focus on getting our products on the market within the given timeframe”.

During 2010 Suzlon has benchmarked the V6 portfolio extensively against competitive solutions on the market. Aspects as full process coverage, international collaboration, one single user interface, knowledge about – and focus on the Wind Turbine Industry, trustworthy implementation plan and local support have been key factors in making the choice for a total solution based on CATIA V6 and ENOVIA V6.

“We have chosen the solution based on CATIA V6, CATIA V6 Composites and ENOVIA V6 as we have evaluated that this solution has outperformed competitive solutions by evaluation of all major points”, says Flemming Mortensen.

”We are very happy that Suzlon has chosen a solution based on Dassault Systèmes’ V6 portfolio and Idé-Pro as the partner for this comprehensive implementation project. We will do our utmost to secure a successful implementation at Suzlon”, says Henrik Bøgelund, CEO at Idé-Pro Engineering & Software.
