Bluewater applies for permit to put up weather tower 16 miles off coast of Rehoboth Beach (USA)
Just days after the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency delegated its oversight of offshore wind activities to the State of Delaware, NRG Bluewater Wind has applied to the state for its permit. The filing showed up in the legals section of today’s News Journal. It’s one of four permits Bluewater needs to put up the weather tower before winter sets in.
The tower will collect a year’s worth of wind speed and bird flight pattern data, required before the wind farm can be constructed.
The legal notice refers to the company as “Bluewater Wind Delaware LLC,” and requests a permit to build a meteorological tower 16 miles off the coast of Rehoboth Beach. (Though, from maps that I’ve looked at, the ocean block appears closer to Dewey Beach. Stay tuned.)
An interesting note here is that the met tower would be “a zero-emissions facility powered by wind turbines and solar panels,” according to the notice.
The notice goes on to say that the Secretary of the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control will not hold a hearing on the application unless someone requests one by August 12.
